‘Flying Scotsman’ Backs Cycle the World
Graeme Obree is urging local cycle fanatics to join ENABLE Scotland for its 24 hour Cycle the World challenge at Knockhill Racing Circuit on 28 August 2015.
The event is running for its fourth year and has already raised an outstanding £130,000 for people in Scotland who have learning disabilities.
Last year cycling legend, Graeme Obree, took part in ENABLE Scotland’s Cycle the World event and with his team raised over £7,000. This year he is calling on other people to sign up and raise vital funds for the local charity.
Graeme, known as the ‘Flying Scotsman’ said, “Last year was a fantastic event. I took part in a team with my son and some close friends, and would thoroughly recommend it to other cycling enthusiasts who are looking for an epic challenge.
“It was an honour to raise money for a charity that is so close to my heart. The event costs £60 per person and although there is no minimum sponsorship I would encourage anyone taking part to raise additional funds for ENABLE Scotland. This is such a worthwhile cause and any extra sponsorship raised will go a long way to helping improve the lives of people who have learning disabilities and their families in Scotland. The fundraising team at ENABLE Scotland are very supportive and will help participants in any way they can to achieve a realistic target.
“Unfortunately I won’t be able to take part again this year due to a conflicting schedule but I am thrilled to be supporting ENABLE Scotland and wish them and all the cyclists the best for the big day. You will love it!”
Jennifer Niven, Corporate and Events Fundraising Manager at ENABLE Scotland, said, “Graeme has been a great ambassador for us and we are very grateful he has been able to take the time to help spread the word about the event again this year.
“Cycle the World is a really exciting day and you can take part as a solo rider or in a team of up to six people. Everyone taking part and even those watching from the trackside are on a real high. It can be tough during the night but we always have a team there ready to cheer people on and give them that extra push of motivation just when they need it.
“There is nothing quite like the atmosphere at Knockhill Racing Circuit when our Cycle the World riders cross the finish line after 24 hours of pedalling!
“If anyone is thinking about signing up or wants more information please get in touch with us. You won’t regret it.”
